The Eurasia Tunnel, which was completed 8 months before the projected finish date, through the efforts of 700 engineers and more than 12,000 employees for over 14 million man hours, was opened on December 20, 2016 during an inaugural ceremony that included President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım. This project is milestone in “tunnel construction” with its location, technical advantages and numerous other features that reduces the journey between the two continents to 5 minutes. Speaking at the ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “With the Eurasia Tunnel, uninterrupted land transport between the two sides of Istanbul has become possible independently from the climate conditions outside”.
